Stress does not always have to be born of something that is bad or hard, but can come from some of the most exciting, happy and wonderful moments in our lives, such as moving house, having children, starting a job and, yes, you’ve guessed it – weddings! Weddings are a real contributor to stress and it is so important we prioritise our wellbeing when we are planning our wedding and keep ourselves, grounded and in control of our stress, nerves and anxiety.
Stress isn’t all bad – in fact it can be a good thing – but we need to manage it right so it serves us effectively.
If you’re experiencing nerves or anxiety or just looking for some clarity around your wedding, try this simple exercise.
Set aside seven minutes and follow the following instructions.
Visualisation Exercise
Close your eyes and imagine your wedding day. How does it feel? How does it sound? What can you smell? What can you taste? What can you see? What does it feel like? Keep this visualisation strong when you’re planning. Visualise yourself at your wedding looking and feeling happy, and when wedding planning starts to overwhelm you, take a moment to bring this visualisation to the forefront of your mind.
You can enhance your visualisation experience by creating a mood board. You could make a physical board by cutting and sticking or a digital one on your phone or computer. Put this mood board somewhere you’ll see it regularly. By visualising your best wedding and taking the action to work with the best suppliers for you, you will have your best day ever.
How does it feel for you?
Visualisation is a great technique for not only coping with overwhelm but for helping bring clarity on decisions regarding your special day. Don’t just rely on Pinterest and magazines: use the power of visualisation to bring your own wedding to life! Really see and feel YOUR day.
If you can bring visualisation, creativity, excitement and happiness to the party in your head, you’ll start to love the wedding planning process.
